It seems people just can't figure out how to spell the word "Ubuntu." I've personally seen Ubantu, Ubunut and some others, and others have reported seeing Unubtu and even Uboontu. Because of this, I have been working on something I think you will all enjoy.

No, it isn't a way to prevent these spellings, or some weird Mac OS autocorrect that fixes any typos. What I'm presenting is a collection of avatars to match the misspellings! If this is well-received (which I really hope it is), suggest a misspelling, and I'll make and revise an avatar for it.

Here's what I have so far. Some are weird sizes (the ones I made earlier), but the standard is going to be 800x800. Have fun?

I think that's all I have right now. Vote on your favorite!

Further suggestions: ubutuna (a fish, I guess?), ubunto (I imagine this as a masked bandit), and ubunt (a baseball bat). Commented Jun 28, 2016 at 20:59

I suggest Uboontu - maybe you can put something scary in it because of the "Boo!", like a ghost? Or Ubonetu, which could be a penguin skeleton.

Please make one for Ubunntu, e.g. a bunny looking out of a tophat (which could have an Ubuntu emblem on it).

PSA guys. These misspellings should actually be real, and not just made up on the spot like Ubanana.

It should be a "q" and not a "p": "nfunqn". Otherwise it reads "uduntu" upside down.

+1 because this is what I see everywhere! Seriously, even the English pronunciation does not end with an "o" sound... How can people write Ubunto? Commented Jun 30, 2016 at 18:13
  • @AndreaLazzarotto I think the problem mostly happen with non-native English speakers. For example, with an Arabic accent, it's much easier to pronounce it as Ubunto than Ubuntu even though none of the phonetics (I think that's what it's called :p) in the Ubuntu word is strange to the Arabic language.

  • @Dan non-native speaker here. :D I still believe the o sound is very different from the u sound, but I don't know about Arabic so I trust you on that one. Commented Jul 20, 2016 at 16:18
