It seems people just can't figure out how to spell the word "Ubuntu." I've personally seen Ubantu, Ubunut and some others, and others have reported seeing Unubtu and even Uboontu. Because of this, I have been working on something I think you will all enjoy.

No, it isn't a way to prevent these spellings, or some weird Mac OS autocorrect that fixes any typos. What I'm presenting is a collection of avatars to match the misspellings! If this is well-received (which I really hope it is), suggest a misspelling, and I'll make and revise an avatar for it.

Here's what I have so far. Some are weird sizes (the ones I made earlier), but the standard is going to be 800x800. Have fun?

I think that's all I have right now. Vote on your favorite!

    I'm surprised nobody has seen it upside down and thought it was called nfunpn – Oli Jun 28 '16 at 16:29

    Further suggestions: ubutuna (a fish, I guess?), ubunto (I imagine this as a masked bandit), and ubunt (a baseball bat). – Nathan Osman Jun 28 '16 at 20:59

    I suggest Uboontu - maybe you can put something scary in it because of the "Boo!", like a ghost? Or Ubonetu, which could be a penguin skeleton. – Byte Commander Jun 29 '16 at 0:06

    Please make one for Ubunntu, e.g. a bunny looking out of a tophat (which could have an Ubuntu emblem on it). – Byte Commander Jun 29 '16 at 13:16

    @AnthonyGeoghegan I'm not sure how it'd be different than ubunut :p – TheWanderer Jun 29 '16 at 16:53

    PSA guys. These misspellings should actually be real, and not just made up on the spot like Ubanana. – Kaz Wolfe Jun 29 '16 at 17:28

    Seen in the wild, especially in France, a variety that probably hangs out here: ubountu – Nicolas Raoul Jul 5 '16 at 10:36

  • Can we use these as profile pics? My normal one is so boring, I just stole it from Google, this makes me laugh every time. I will give you credit in my profile too. – Mark Kirby Jul 3 '16 at 9:40

    Especially relevant considering Mark Shuttleworth (Ubuntu founder, and current sabdfl) was an astronaut. – UniversallyUniqueID Jul 6 '16 at 13:32

    It should be a "q" and not a "p": "nfunqn". Otherwise it reads "uduntu" upside down. – Byte Commander Jun 29 '16 at 14:05

  • You might want to have a go at using boon instead of boo. – terdon Jun 29 '16 at 8:59
  • @terdon like gifting Ubuntu? I can try something. – TheWanderer Jun 29 '16 at 12:38
  • Or that Ubuntu is a boon, a gift. – terdon Jun 29 '16 at 13:26

    +1 because this is what I see everywhere! Seriously, even the English pronunciation does not end with an "o" sound... How can people write Ubunto? – Andrea Lazzarotto Jun 30 '16 at 18:13
  • @AndreaLazzarotto I think the problem mostly happen with non-native English speakers. For example, with an Arabic accent, it's much easier to pronounce it as Ubunto than Ubuntu even though none of the phonetics (I think that's what it's called :p) in the Ubuntu word is strange to the Arabic language. – Dan Jul 20 '16 at 16:12
  • @Dan non-native speaker here. :D I still believe the o sound is very different from the u sound, but I don't know about Arabic so I trust you on that one. – Andrea Lazzarotto Jul 20 '16 at 16:18
