Help me find the flaws in my question resulting in down votes
@WinEunuuchs2Unix If it’s an anwer, please post it as one – keeping questions and answers separated is crucial! As you accepted ByteCommander’s answer, it will stay on top anyway. There’s also nothing wrong in (even drastically!) changing a question and adapting it to a good answer. Make it relevant to others.

How to search prior questions?
@Zanna I think those are two questions, one for each. Answering the meta question seems like teaching OP and others how to fish.

Posting extra answer to support existing answer
It‘s totally fine to change an answer significantly if all you do is extending and improving it (rather than change its meaning or delete content) IMHO. I don‘t see why a new answer would be necessary, but please provide the link.

Can we please stop telling people to use "apt-get" when simply "apt" accomplishes the same thing?
@TheWanderer I don’t think
apt-get
is any more deprecated than apt
itself. @OP I think you got the right idea, often apt
is the better alternative for users. However, if the command is presented on the site, most people will copy and paste it anyway – I don’t see the typing as a problem, but I think the more user-friendly output of apt
justifies using it. @all As to the differences and uses of both, see apt gives “Unstable CLI Interface” warning.

Coloured Text to highlight emphasis
I doubt it helps, but as it doesn’t do any harm in this case I refrained from editing it out (by adding
<!-- language-all: none -->
to the post’s top).
