Cannot submit a question with the software-installation tag
I created an FR for this on meta.se meta.stackexchange.com/questions/374846/…. It's quite frustrating as it is now.

Can chat get a redesign? Please?
I had no idea a flag in chat is sent to all mods throughout the network! That sounds like a lot of inbox spam for you mods.

Was it necessary to close "Is a clean install better than upgrading?" as opinion-based?
Not necessarily adding a new answer, but one valuable reason to have it open is to be able to close similar question as duplicate to this one. It does seem to be a popular topic people ask based on the linked questions and number of votes on it.

How to decide which flag is the correct one?
Maybe not all the time, but I would say if a duplicate exists it's more valuable to use the dupe flag. I asked a similar question quite a while ago in case that helps meta.askubuntu.com/questions/8219/…

@C.S.Cameron The question wasn't recently closed. It was closed 7 years ago, then reopened and closed 3 years ago. You can see more details in the timeline, of the post

"it seems to me that the edge cases and corner cases have dominated the good advice here." I guess that's probably why it's getting closed as opinion-based. Some of the answers are more opinion-based or just needs more details about their opinion to make it more objective. But I do agree that the question should be opened.

Improving question closed banners for most users - short wording needed for site specific reasons
@Catija I just double-checked each official flavour of Ubuntu, and I can confirm that all of them direct users to report bugs on Launchpad. I agree with Zanna that saying "... should be reported onLaunchpad" is more correct as it informs users about the platform in case they don't know about it. Otherwise, I quite like your recommended wordings, especially the "This question was closed because [...]" instead of "This question is off topic. [...]" parts as they sound more friendly.

BUG : Unanswered questions?
@Paul They do work. But you need to use the URL to the gif file directly. In this case, it would be
https://i.imgur.com/JQ6Hne1.gif
. This GIF, though, is huge. I wouldn't embed it without resizing it first.

Change the links in Ask Ubuntu Meta contact page
@terdon OP means the last 2 links are http instead of https in the contact page. The first one links to
https://help.yahoo.com/kb/helpcentral
which ends up redirecting to https://help.yahoo.com/kb/account
. OP is asking to update all links so they directly go to the correct place instead of relying on redirects.

Which is better: editing someone's old but outdated answer to keep it up to date or making a new answer and adding a note to the old one?
You can however edit the main answer and add some notice at the of the answer, for now, to mention that an answer is outdated and will not work after version XX.XX or some other reason. For example, askubuntu.com/a/256018/8698
