I was re-tagging a question about developing applications when I noticed there was a dev tag. To me, both dev and devices (or maybe development) cover exactly the same thing.
Can we merge the tags or make dev a synonym of development?

No. Trash dev instead. It seems to be used as an abbreviation for two unrelated subjects:
- devices (about 10)
- development (about 5)
So, let's just trash the dev tag and retag the maybe even four real development questions. The use of dev for devices does not make sense to me. I do understand new users seeing /dev/sda and thinking 'dev' would be a nice tag...

Jorge Castro has added dev as a synonym of development. Users with a score of five in the development tag can vote for it here
While this isn't the answer everyone would like, (seeing gertvdijk's answer has 15 upvotes), but nothing else has been done about it so I think this is the best solution at the moment.
