Can (and should) I use Ask Ubuntu to ask a question that I already know the answer to in order to make a "how-to"?

And don't insert a how to tag in the question. – Oxwivi Jun 25 '11 at 20:26

Sure. Just come up with a good question, and put the howto in an answer. We're here to answer real questions, but we don't have to personally have the problem in order to present it.

Just remember that posting your howto means you're putting under the cc-wiki with attribution license (see site footer).

+1 for reminding the OP of the cc-wiki restriction. – Nathan Osman Jul 29 '10 at 2:42
  • "CC-WIKI" is just another name for "CC-BY-SA", so "with attribution" is redundant; what that link in the footer does is say how attribution is required. – Roger Pate Nov 7 '10 at 22:55
