I am a long time supporter and advocate for free/libre open source software.
I have been an Ubuntu user since 2006 and a contributor since 2011.
Humanity as a whole benefits when everyone is free to use, study, modify, and redistribute the software that runs our world.
So why am I "on strike"?
Since inception, Ask Ubuntu's elected and volunteer moderators have strived to make AU a repository of high quality questions and answers about Ubuntu. My contributions here reflect my commitment to that tradition.
Unfortunately, Stack Exchange Inc. has repeatedly chosen quantity over quality. Their misguided management staff have repeatedly made hamfisted decisions to chase short term profits while ignoring community leaders and those who truly make the community great.
These increasingly poor decisions reached an inflection point in May 2023. Elected and community moderators are now unable to make decisions for their own communities. As a result, we are no longer empowered to provide or maintain the quality on which Ask Ubuntu has built a reputation.
It is with great sadness that I am considerably stepping back from my role here. Hopefully, Stack Exchange Inc. can recognize the damage that their nearsightedness has caused, and make a course correction. Unfortunately, it may be too late...
