Why has my upvoted answer about xz been silently deleted?
I would caution you with saying "they should justify their actions and not abuse their authority." - that's accusatory and akin to stating that a moderator is abusing their authority, which is something that if you believe should be taken up with CMs, not stated here as a public comment which can be read as being slanderous.

@terdon in the case of this specific vulnerability you're right, however the problem is if we start allowing these kinds of answers, then it sets a bad security precedent. Either way, I wouldn't suggest running anything that has any RCE vulnerability or backdoor vulnerability, even if there's even remotely a chance of a compromise. The point is that it's an insecure practice regardless, not specific to this vulnerability but to many in general.

Has policy on downvotes changed?
There was never a policy per se except against serial downvoting, which is usually not the case. The only 'recommendation' is that those who downvote leave a comment as to why, but it's not enforced in any way.

@GlenM Synaptic hasn't been installed by default for ages on Ubuntu. It's no longer a default on Ubuntu desktop systems.

Policy Change Proposal: "End of Standard Support" for ESM releases is effectively the "Not Supported" date for a release on Ask Ubuntu
@WinEunuuchs2Unix sounds like you should open your own thread on this. This post is 3 years old at this point.

Is this for your StackExchange account/login or for your computer? (Read my answer it covers all cases)

Are we gradually losing our most active members?
I would not use Reputation as a metric. Rep is just fake internet points.

Can we fix this tag or should we just [uninstall]?
Personal thoughts: it sounds like
uninstall
is a meta-tag, and so is software-uninstall
or a proposed system-uninstall
. Ideally we should burninate the uninstall tag and have the corresponding removal questions be put in the proper sections rather than having a larger 'meta-tag' for uninstalling software or system generally.

Let's NOT participate in the one-rep voting experiment
I'm just going to add that the proposal on SE Meta has -144 vote count currently, suggesting that the community at large across SE sites is against this proposal. On that basis alone we should not participate, in my opinion.
