Apr 12, 2019 at 3:45 | comment | added | DK Bose | After asking for a clarification here, I know that the poster has visited the site at least twice after I asked for the clarification. Of course, it may just be that no clarification is needed and I need to educate myself better. And, given the example of the electrician, there could be a boatload of reasons why a clarification isn't being provided (even if one is merited). So I won't vote to close as unclear ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Mar 23, 2019 at 12:04 | comment | added | DK Bose | @JacobVlijm fair enough!
Mar 23, 2019 at 11:54 | comment | added | Jacob Vlijm | @DKBose Think it is important to decide if a question is crap, or your (/my) knowledge might be insufficient. If you are not sure, don't vote, let others decide.
Mar 23, 2019 at 11:47 | comment | added | Jacob Vlijm | @DKBose I understand what you mean, but the great misconception is that if I don't understand a question, the question should be unclear. There is the combination of my knowledge and the knowledge it takes to answer the question. There are many questions which I don't understand, but are very well answerable. I might not understand what is asked, but that is a gap in my experience. All the info was in the question. Even the name of the application. I see many, many close votes on totally clear questions, simply because reviewers assum if they don't understand, the question is unclear.
Mar 23, 2019 at 4:01 | comment | added | DK Bose | @JacobVlijm, while the question I linked to (now deleted), may have been clear to those who know what the image and title meant, it wasn't clear to me. I think questions should be understandable to a broader audience rather than just to people who know what the issue is. I wasn't alone there judging by the comment before mine. And to that extent, I don't feel much regret over voting to close as unclear. It would be another matter if just one vote is enough. Others, including the poster, who know better certainly can improve the question.
Mar 23, 2019 at 3:53 | comment | added | DK Bose | I want to ask for a clarification re. voting to close for any reason including being unclear. Isn't the poster of the question informed "by the system" that such a vote has been cast and aren't suggestions provided to remedy the situation if possible?
Mar 21, 2019 at 17:26 | comment | added | Kulfy | @CharlesGreen Indeed. But over the time I learnt upvotes matters more than acceptance of an answer.
Mar 21, 2019 at 14:38 | comment | added | Charles Green | @Kulfy Perhaps they figured it out on their own? With the OP gone, it would appear to have no hope have having an accepted answer.
Mar 21, 2019 at 14:36 | comment | added | Kulfy | @CharlesGreen First unclear close vote was mine ;-). Since OP deleted his account and I believe there is now minimal hope that this question would become clear.
Mar 21, 2019 at 14:33 | comment | added | Charles Green | @Kulfy Another fairly quick "Unclear" https://askubuntu.com/questions/1127450/error-mysql-not-would-start-and-i-dont-know-what-is-the-issue - and oddly, the OP's account with AskUbuntu seems to be gone now.
Mar 21, 2019 at 6:47 | comment | added | Kulfy | @CharlesGreen That's what I meant. Instead of just downvoting/closing to vote, we should make a habit of leaving constructive comments and try to work with OP to make the post more clear.
Mar 21, 2019 at 6:44 | comment | added | Kulfy | Note to downvoters: Consider leaving a comment or an answer with your opinion.
Mar 21, 2019 at 6:41 | comment | added | Jacob Vlijm | @DKBose interesting example you give. All the info is already in the question. As the title sais, the application is Code or VSCode, OP even added an image to show us the application's icon and what he exactly wants. No reason to close as unclear for that.
Mar 21, 2019 at 6:00 | comment | added | DK Bose | Here's one from five hours ago. Clarification was sought shortly thereafter. I've just voted to close it as a "nudge" to the poster. I don't see any harm in voting to close even immediately if a question is unclear. Voting to close isn't something that can't be reversed later on if the poster is interested and can improve the question.
Mar 20, 2019 at 19:58 | comment | added | Charles Green | I posted a comment on that question, asking for clarification. I believe that I saw it in the 'unclear' queue, but I have seen an awful lot marked that way in the past few months, and even though I don't know how to answer many of those questions seem clear to me.

Mar 19, 2019 at 18:38 | comment | added | Kulfy | @Rinzwind Agreed with your first point but in that case it should be closed as "too broad". Isn't it? Moreover, crap answers always find their way ;-)
Mar 19, 2019 at 18:31 | comment | added | Rinzwind | I myself tend to close as unclear if it is a one-liner that spawns more than 3 questions so would not have closed this q (besides my earlier comment making it off topic ;) ) waiting 2 days though will also allow 2 days of crap answers to be posted.
Mar 19, 2019 at 18:23 | comment | added | Jacob Vlijm | @Rinzwind I wasn't referring to the specific case, even didn't see it :)
Mar 19, 2019 at 18:14 | comment | added | Kulfy | @Rinzwind But the screenshot looks more like of a typical Ubuntu terminal. The example might be wrong but my intention is not. You people are around for many years whereas I'm here since last 11 months. So, you might have seen more cases like that.

Mar 19, 2019 at 18:05 | comment | added | Rinzwind | Using a mint live session might be the cause. Mind that this probably also makes it likely he is using Mint as it is tagged mint too. Soooooooo in this case for that reason I might disagree with @JacobVlijm and your stance Kulfy
Mar 19, 2019 at 17:54 | comment | added | Jacob Vlijm | Think you have a point. 3x. Like you say, a post is more easily closed than reopened. I can't say I am innocent though. I remember quite a few occasions I shot on sight.
