Well, there is actually a distinction between a hardware "monitor" and the picture that is displayed. In the case of hardware monitors, consider the question How do I turn off the laptop screen while using an external monitor?. The question Laptop VGA monitor (ati card) blanks ~every 30 seconds is illustrative for the second meaning.

So we have to wait till 27th December 2011 before they question dies? Can't it be lifted to 180 days (6 months)? I do not think it would make a difference.
