What is the preferred way to add a numbered list using markdown?
“Markdown keeps track of the numbers for you” this is actually quite misleading. The point is Markdown does not look at the number at all and simply outputs a
<li>
tag.

Please don't say "I have tried everything"
@Hack-R we do not censor, we curate content. Also, lacking what some user tried often makes a question very hard to answer.

Agreed. It should be noted that “I have searched the whole internet” does also not make sense because the Internet is a physical collection of objects (mainly cables, routers and various devices). If the OP searched the web using a search engine, they should say so but most importantly show what they have tried among what they found. :)

What is our stance on pad.lv URLs?
... and neither of those links you mentioned show what they are about, because they do not contain the question title. We might agree or not agree on banning third party url shorteners or redirections, however we need to provide a reason that makes sense.

The argument you quoted does not make much sense, because then you would also want to ban official SE links like this one: meta.askubuntu.com/a/17707/271

Questions about wireless that lack information are not necessarily duplicates
@Seth I've got to search and find where this was discussed before, because I am sure this was discussed before... and the consensus was "if the question is somehow similar and the answer is absolutely the same, it's a duplicate".

While I do agree on this specific instance, @Seth we can (and should, and have done already) close questions if there are slightly different questions that have the same answer. Of course the instance shown by Zanna is not such a case because the "what information is needed to diagnose the issue?" is not a duplicate of "how do I fix this issue?".

Moderators are *not* the Software Police! (Read for details!)
@terdon, Hiren Boot CD is not only a pirated copy of Windows, it also includes several cracked commercial programs. You don't need a law degree, you just need to be aware about the contents of Hiren's Boot CD. Have you ever looked into it? Some other flags have been provided on other communities, but the SE TOS should apply equally regardless of the community.

«because the cracked software is integral to the question, which would be a violation of the Terms of Service as Oli says, we'll nuke it from orbit like we do other law-breaking things» Cool. Except it happened multiple times that I flagged answers or comments explicitly telling the user to use pirated software (it was 100% of the answer/comment) and my flag got rejected. Every single time.

"Can I run Ubuntu on my hardware?" questions: a discussion
@muru I have now checked it more carefully and saw it is about "how to check if"... In this case I think it is a good question for this site.

I agree on what you wrote. In fact, I am very tempted to VTC your CW question as too broad as well. It the broadest of the broader questions. :P

Is there a way to verify integrity of a link in the answer?
@Sergiy eh yeah. So maybe in a few years I will be able to use that button.

Yes, that's why I wrote "random websites". :) I don't know if I have any power over deletion. Should I flag it?

Good catch! Whether it's malicious or not, it doesn't matter. Telling users to
wget
stuff from random websites is like telling them it's OK to drive while drink because they could not get injured.

Should a post be flagged as spam if an author is clearly *not affiliated* with the promotion?
@Dan «a disclosure of affiliation shouldn't automatically make it "not spam"» Correct. «removing the disclosure, shouldn't automatically make it spam» Not really: disclosure is required by SE rules.
