I noticed [my answer](https://askubuntu.com/revisions/1020934/3) to a question was subsequently [revised](https://askubuntu.com/revisions/1020934/4) for no apparent reason than markdown preference.

However, it led me to wonder what is the preferred formatting of an ordered list using markdown? I can't find a style guide for a preference for numbered lists: [A: Style guide for questions and answers](https://meta.askubuntu.com/questions/89/style-guide-for-questions-and-answers/103?s=3|8.0100#103).

### Details

In my original post I used a placeholder number (`0.`) for order. The edit changed placeholders in favor of pre-numbered of items (`1.`, `2.`, ... `N.`) to define a preset sequence.

Although it is syntactically correct, it seems less flexible or clear (in a diff) if edited, creating a cascading change effect.
