While this seems helpful for answering and asking questions, how does this help distinguish you as a good potential moderator?** ---- **![ObsessiveSSOℲ](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/3d29d26e0b6452a8732390472f59a7b4?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [ObsessiveSSOℲ](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/36486/obsessivessof) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8105751#8105751):** I personally don't think it really does. While there *are* a few edge cases where this may apply, maturity and impartiality are more important. **![Amith KK](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/17f955dcc67792f420f47dc6471d376a?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [Amith KK](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/16377/amith-kk) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8105768#8105768):** I don't think experience on just using the OS matters much. But it is required to help to understand the question, which is then needed to take action on it. **![mateo_salta](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/adf708efd8e843f270c3a6f2935e8368?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [mateo_salta](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/33796/mateo-salta) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8105775#8105775):** All the computer/linux experience in the world would not distinguish someone as better for a moderator. **![FEichinger](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/b3c95705dadc56ae2010baf4c122bbad?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [FEichinger](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/54152/feichinger) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8105815#8105815):** I personally don't - except for the notion that I embraced the community alongside ubuntu. I don't see a direct correlation between a user well-informed about the site's main topic, and a user moderating it - while a large amount of insight obviously helps in defining the border line between off- and on-topic. **![RolandiXor](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/d629b6ac45d58dbd918c0246b364748d?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [RolandiXor](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/4769/rolandixor) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8105822#8105822):** Honestly, that is not the premise that I'm running under, and in my humble opinion, anyone who thinks that qualifies them is not qualified (or needs to seek within themselves another criterion for qualification). **![Luis Alvarado](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/8d85f84b3c0241ebca2eee5a2552014f?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [Luis Alvarado](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/12093/luis-alvarado) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8105861#8105861):** Actually, the time I have in Ubuntu, Open source or anything related to this, does little to how one is good as moderation. Moderation is more closed related to how a teacher and students behave, how a leader works with his community or pack. If I had to say something related to that is that being a teacher at a pre-college and a degree on teaching can help a bit. Moderation is not about how much you know, is how you apply that information and the way you apply it to the community. **![jokerdino](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/8bfa3d624cdb4f087d8d8ffcaf786315?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [jokerdino](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/24463/jokerdino) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8106398#8106398):** I actually am running because I think I can do a good job as a moderator. It doesn't have anything to do with me using Ubuntu for a couple of years. Though, however, prior good experience with the OS would give you a good idea of the value of posts in the site and determining if a post ought to stay or go. **![Journeyman Geek](http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/e88cb2b3858ca0df735806f1a8476b23?s=16&d=identicon&r=PG) [Journeyman Geek](http://chat.stackexchange.com/users/10208/journeyman-geek) [answered](http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8108579#8108579):** I don't actually have that. I've not been here that long, but I want to step up and do more. I think that willingness, and the fact that I'm part of some of the other parts of SE, and can talk to them on good terms is what I have to offer.
