I recently asked this question How to trace the IP of a Tox user?, and although it received upvotes as and was answered, it was still closed as off-topic. But I don't really see why because although it was asking about third-party software, I thought that was allowed, or if it was because it was asking about something that could also be done on another OS, I thought that was allowed too? So why exactly was it closed? I was asking how to do it specifically on Ubuntu, for software which I have running on Ubuntu, and as questions on third-party software are allowed, and questions which are not necessarily Ubuntu-specific, I don't see why it was closed.

So what was off-topic about it?
