The way it was explained to me, is that a "closed dupe acts as a signpost to another question that already exists" with answers that suit; possibly better answers (although this isn't always the case). I dislike duplication of effort so I'm unlikely to move an answer, as I've found answers that work on questions flagged as dupes on several occasions. I only delete answers that I think are bad and worthy of the bin. I think the OP wanted to know if it was OK to both answer and mark as duplicate. This appears to be addressed by existing answers. | |
